What is a catchment?

A catchment is the area in the natural landscape where the water is collected.  The rain water and run-off water flows into creeks, rivers, lakes or ocean.

For example the Tuggerah Lakes Catchment covers an area of 670 square kilometres.  It includes The Entrance, Wyong, Yarramalong, Ourimbah, Budgewoi, San Remo and Dooralong.  Rain that falls in the Tuggerah Lakes Catchment then flows into the local creeks and rivers (eg Ourimbah Creek, Wyong River and Wallarah Creek) before flowing into Tuggerah Lake, Budgewoi Lake or Lake Munmorah.
